Lowkey Fluent helps parents understand the slang their kids use, a few minutes at a time. It's for understanding, not for talking like a teenager: get it, don't say it.
How it works
- Pick what a word means, then see where it comes from and who says it.
- Miss one? It comes back a few posts later.
- After 10 you'll get a good place to stop.
The categories
- This week: 5 brand-new words every Monday, the same 5 for everyone.
- Words, Acronyms, Emojis, Memes: what kids say and send.
- Check Yourself: how your texts come across to them.
- Retry: the ones you missed.
- Mature, Political: crude or political slang worth recognizing, with a note for parents. Only shown if you open them.
How words are checked
- Each entry is researched in several sources: dictionaries, slang trackers like Know Your Meme, and news explainers for parents.
- Every entry is fact-checked before it goes in, and the whole list is re-checked regularly. Words that fall out of use are removed.
- Slang changes fast and can mean different things in different places. If your kid says we got one wrong, they may well be right.
It's a beta
